Showing Up
Has writing a book become easier? In many ways, yes.
In the old days, writing a book meant:
• sitting quietly for weeks, months, or years
• handwriting or typewriting page after page of words
• a laborious corrections process
• passing the gatekeepers in the publishing house
• creating a printed book through a time consuming, expensive, and rather exclusive process.
Today, writing a book means:
• spending around 20 hours on the phone with a skilled ghostwriter
• waiting a few weeks for a first draft
• reviewing drafts and revising them together
• passing the files to a hybrid publisher and receiving a book in a few months
• self-publishing even quicker
• perhaps deciding to stick to an e-book format to avoid printing & paper costs
Some parts of the publishing process haven't become any easier, however.
• You still need to show up with your knowledge and experience
• You still need to think about who will benefit from your knowledge and experience
• You still need to be authentic and authoritative for your reader
If you don't want to put in the effort on the content, it doesn't matter how much easier the process is.
Your book's still not going to be worth the effort.
