Know Your Readers

Does the world really need your business book?

Frankly, no. The world probably doesn't. It has many books already.

But you're not writing a business book for the world. You're writing for a very targeted audience … and those readers absolutely need the book that only you can write.

• Perhaps they're a younger version of you that wants to learn about your career success

• Perhaps they're in your industry, and they need to learn from insights you've had

• Perhaps they're struggling to overcome precisely the same problem you've learned how to overcome

• Perhaps they're feeling stuck and they need reminding that persistence or luck or skill will help them get through

• Perhaps they are potential clients for a service you've developed

• Perhaps they are potential customers for a product that will put you at the forefront of your market

If any of those apply to you, or any variation on them, writing a book is a time efficient and cash efficient way to achieve your ROI.

But remember that you're only writing for your specific audience.

The rest of the world can look after itself.
