Keep It Light

A successful business book has at least two different purposes: one for the author, and one for the reader.

As the author, your purpose might be raising your profile, establishing trust, attracting leads, or generating more business.

Your reader’s purpose might be to get an insight into an aspect of business or leadership you’ve aced that they want to achieve. It might be to learn ideas they can use in their own life or situation. It might be to get inspiration and encouragement.

Whatever your different purposes, you’re both far more likely to achieve them if your book is also easy and enjoyable to read, with lots of stories, an engaging structure, and a conversational tone.

It’s not a crime to entertain your reader. In fact, it makes what you’re telling them more effective. If you can make them laugh—or at least smile—they’ll remember your book for longer.
