Don’t Reinvent The Wheel
Your business book doesn't have to reinvent the wheel.
First-time business authors often worry that they don’t have anything new to say.
After more than 30 years creating nonfiction books, I'd say they're probably right. There aren't that many thoughts that haven't been written down.
Not sensible ones, anyway.
But it doesn't matter.
Even the best business books rarely create brand new ideas. They put together existing ideas to create a new whole.
Apple didn't invent any parts of the iPhone. The pieces of technology all existed. Apple just figured out a new way to put them together.
It’s the same with your book. You don't have to come up with brand new ideas. You can put ideas that exist with your own experience and thoughts to create something new.
If you set out to invent information, you're setting a high bar. The chances are your book may not get started … and will certainly never be finished.
If you concentrate innovating in how you put information together, you've got a far better chance of getting your book done … and helping your readers.
So be an innovator, not an inventor.
