Do I Have A Favorite?

What's the favorite book you've worked on?

When people ask that question, the answer is always the same. The book I’m currently writing. Followed by the book I’ll write next, for which I’m planning and interviewing the author.

There are some books I've preferred over others or subject matter I’ve found more interesting, but the fact is, once I complete a manuscript it’s no longer mine. It belongs entirely to the author. I leave it behind and move on to the next.

But while the book I’m writing is still *mine*, I treat it as the most precious thing in the whole world. It has my undivided attention. I write it as if I was writing my own book and my name was going to be on the cover.

If I don’t do that, how can I expect anyone else to take pride in something I’ve written for them?
