Back From The Dead
A ghostwriter hears some remarkable stories, but this was one of the most dramatic.
My author was working in a coal mine when a flash flood filled the tunnels with water.
He fought through chest-high water to get a ventilation shaft. He climbed for hours to reach a higher level of the mine.
He made his way out to find his sister in tears. He had been reported dead.
Bam. That was the start to the book. I was writing the hook before he’d finished telling the story.
But the author told me, “We’re not going to start with that. That's not my most amazing adventure.”
And it turned out he was right. I was wrong.
He quit the mine the next day. The things he went on to achieve put the fact of mere survival in the shade. They were remarkable on any scale.
And when we finish his book, you’ll be able to find out what they were.
