getting your roi
How do I get maximum ROI from my book?
Writing a book takes a lot of effort. It might be something you only do once in your life, so it makes sense to make sure you get the highest ROI you can, whether that’s by driving sales, establishing credibility, or opening a path to a new market or a new job.
The author I know who is best at this does the following:
• Identify your audience. Specifically, what do they want to know and how much of it can you tell them?
• Plan your book in logical, self-contained sections, each of which you can exploit with different themed social posts, articles, or podcast discussions. Or in a follow-up book.
• Use gripping hooks that will work in any format.
• Sum up your main points in concise, memorable calls to action that will resonate online.
• Include routes to an interactive experience, so the reader can visit a website or better still join a community of readers connected by you.
• Never cheat the reader. This is the most important of all. If you promise the reader you're going to tell them your method to achieve this or that, don’t write a book of generic tosh and say, “To find out more about my method, you'll have to join my mailing list.” The reader paid good money for the book, so they need some return.
• But remember to plug yourself. Authors often say, “This book will allow you to do XYZ on your own—but if you want to do it quicker, give me a call and I can help.”
That way, you can still be getting value out of your book years after you've written it.
